Design & Systems Thinking Boot Camp with a Real Client (703358)

Design & Systems Thinking Boot Camp with a Real Client

Take a break from a long week of class and work with a real client over the weekend at Moon Hall. Teamwork and collaboration are key in this Design & Systems Thinking Boot Camp. There will be dynamic instructors, talented guest speakers, lots of engaging activities, and of course FOOD!
Design Thinking allows you to address human-centered problems within any organization. It is critical to understand the needs of user(s), challenge assumptions, and also redefine the problems to identify alternative strategies and solutions. Design Thinking is even more valuable when integrated with Systems Thinking; a broader view of human-centered problems related to an organization’s mission, processes, culture, economic impacts, products, services, etc. - their ecosystem.
See how your major/minor, background and experiences can significantly impact solution outcomes for a financial organization. Work with a real client on a human-centered problem that you probably also experience, daily, and use your Liberal Arts experiences at Denison to play an important role in the success of the outcomes.
You will learn...
- How to engage in Design & Systems Thinking with a real client
- The value of teamwork
- How various student majors/backgrounds positively impact problem solving
- The value that great solutions have on an organization's mission, operations, culture, user experience, internal/external ecosystem
- From the experiential work, how to "tell about a time when you...helped a client solve a specific problem" and be able to provide an example
- Story-telling; how to integrate your own persona into the story behind the solutions
Weekend Schedule:
1 - Friday | April 9 | 6:00 - 7:30 PM - over dinner, you will be introduced to the challenge, meet the client, and hear from an industry expert
2 - Saturday | April 10 | 9:00 AM - 8:00 PM - you will begin scoping the work, understanding the Design Thinking toolbox, gathering insights, and understanding systems thinking interfaces. You will have the entire day to accomplish this work
3 - Sunday | April 11 | 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM you continue the work from Saturday; leading to drafting conclusions, prepping for final presentations, delivering your findings, and reflecting on what was accomplished
NOTE: The maximum capacity for this Boot Camp is 20 students, so it also includes an Application for participation. You will receive a link to the brief Application in your Welcome Message email. Please complete the Application for final consideration.
Thank you for your interest in the Design & Systems Thinking Boot Camp!
