Faculty Engagement
It's no secret: At Denison, our faculty and staff are deeply committed to our students in classrooms, laboratories, athletic fields, studios, and offices.
This investment continues well beyond the time students spend on the Hill. Professors and administrators care about the professional development of our students — the types of jobs they attain, the work they are able to produce, the satisfaction they find in their post-graduate pursuits, and so on.
As a result, there is an easy and fruitful partnership between the Knowlton Center and Denison's academic departments. We collaborate with these exceptional mentors to help students identify, understand, and articulate the connections between what they learn in class and the lives they want to lead after college.
This collaboration takes multiple forms across campus. Some examples include:
- identifying classroom opportunities that encourage students to think about the type of lives they want lead;
- incorporating professional development topics and vision casting into student advising circles; (link to story about advising circles?)
- recognizing the transferable professional skills that students gain in the classroom as a part of their learning outcomes;
- and collaborating to identify tangible skill-building that benefits both the job search and classroom learning, such as data analytics or business model principles.
The incredible talents of our faculty, and their investment in our students, are foundational to our identity as a college. That is why we do our best to leverage these relationships in the work we do to prepare students for life after Denison.
