Integrate knowledge from finance, economics, and mathematics to gain a rigorous foundation in financial theory and application. Build strong data analysis and communication skills that prepare you for high-demand careers in a rapidly evolving financial landscape.
What you’ll study as a Finance major
Finance majors develop technical finance and quantitative skills in a liberal arts context. You’ll learn how financial institutions, monetary policy, and regulatory frameworks shape economic and financial systems, and hone your abilities in critical thinking, statistical modeling, ethical reasoning, and communication.
Basics of finance, economics, and accounting
Learn the principles of macro- and micro-economics, accrue basic concepts and theories, and practice the mathematical tools you’ll need as you connect your knowledge of finance in advanced course, internships, and your capstone project.
Expand and deepen your finance knowledge
Sharpen your decision-making skills as you dive into economic methodologies, statistical concepts, and data analysis. Develop and apply your financial and technical skills in classroom research.
Capstone experience
In the senior capstone project, you will conduct research, apply your expertise, analyze financial topics, and effectively present your information. You will refine and deepen your skills, synthesizing your finance and liberal arts education.
Why is Finance better at Denison?
Bloomberg terminals
As a Denison finance major, you’ll have Bloomberg terminals at your fingertips. A rarity at liberal arts colleges, the terminals offer students hands-on skills used by the world’s leading finance professionals and Bloomberg certifications that provide a competitive edge in the workforce.
Interactive Learning
Finance students have multiple opportunities to learn by tackling real-world economic and business problems. They analyze data, conduct research, present solutions to local companies, and win prizes in national competitions and pitch events, like The Econ Games.
The science of finance
In your finance degree, you will develop skills in mathematical modeling and statistical methods for financial analysis; learn to prepare, analyze, and interpret financial statements; and apply data-driven methods to evaluate market trends, investment strategies, and policy outcomes.
A holistic approach
The finance major offers opportunities for collaborative inquiry, experiential learning, and integrative approaches. You will grapple with questions of human welfare and trade-offs to assess the economic and social impact of financial choices.
Executive mentorship
Denison’s executive-in-residence program brings accomplished industry leaders — including CEOs and CFOs — to The Hill to engage with and mentor students, deepening the connection between academic learning, career preparation, and professional experience and insights.
Kaplan prep
Denison’s Kaplan All Access Pass provides students free access to prep for FQPQ and SIE exams — helping build key industry credentials for a competitive edge in internships and jobs. Students can also enroll in Kaplan’s Financial Modeling course and pursue the Wealth Management Specialist credential.
