Jonathan Ramsden

Former Chief Financial Officer of Big Lots Inc. and Abercrombie & Fitch

Jonathan Ramsden is a global financial and strategic leader who has spent over 25 years in senior executive roles with U.S. public companies in the retail and marketing services sectors. From 2019-2025, he served as the chief financial and administrative officer of Big Lots Inc. Prior to that, he served as chief financial officer and then chief operating officer of Abercrombie & Fitch from 2008-2016, and as chief financial officer of TBWA Worldwide, a global marketing services group, from 1998-2008. Through his executive roles, Ramsden has extensive experience in financial management, strategy, M&A, global business operations, and corporate restructuring. In addition to his executive roles, Ramsden has served as an adjunct professor at Ohio State University’s Fisher College of Business since 2018, and as a board member of IR Medtek, a medical technology company, since 2019. From 2017-2019, Ramsden operated an independent consulting business, advising boards and management teams of companies going through periods of significant corporate change. He has served on multiple nonprofit boards and currently chairs the board of the Final Third Foundation. Originally from Nottingham, England, Ramsden holds an MA in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics from Oxford University and is a dual US/UK citizen. He has three children and resides in Bexley, Ohio.

Professor Emerita, CPA, and Former Learning Map Developer for Root Learning, Inc.

Louann Cummings ’75 has dabbled in the higher education milieu for the past 40 years. Her educational background spans the social sciences to accounting and management. She received her bachelor’s in economics from Denison, an MBA from the University of Toledo (and subsequently earned her CPA), and a Doctor of Business Administration from Case Western Reserve University. This educational path culminated in her current desire for a systems-thinking, interdisciplinary focus in the classroom. Additionally, she worked for Root Learning, Inc., developing learning map technologies for companies such as Harley-Davidson, ATT Wireless, Motorola, UPS, and Whirlpool. Louann is a Professor Emerita at the University of Findlay and has spent many years presenting in Denison’s Organizational Studies and Denison Edge programs. In addition to teaching various undergraduate and graduate accounting, business strategy, and leadership courses, she has a robust background in assessing student learning and in accreditation initiatives. She has served as an examiner for The Partnership for Excellence, made numerous presentations on learning and assessment, and worked as an editor for several publishers. She also has years of experience in deploying effective and engaging online learning experiences. Louann spent a sabbatical in India working with an NGO project, was a visiting scholar in Ho Chi Minh City, served as a Fulbright Scholar in Hanoi, Vietnam, and was a Fulbright Specialist in Niamey, Niger. Of greatest note and delight are her wonderful husband, four children (and their spouses), and ten grandchildren. In her spare time, Louann enjoys traveling, reading, her dogs, knitting, cooking, and distance running. Since 2004, she has run well over 25,000 miles (and counting), has completed 27 half marathons, and 8 marathons, including crossing the finish line in Boston.

Connie Schultz is a Pulitzer Prize-winning writer and a professional-in-residence in the journalism school at Kent State University, her alma mater. She is the author of two memoirs, Life Happens and …And His Lovely Wife. Schultz lives in Cleveland with her husband, Sherrod Brown, and their rescue dogs Franklin and Walter. They have four children and seven grandchildren.

Rick Boyages

Former Vice President for Men’s Basketball for the Big Ten Conference

Rick Boyages has worked in the college sports industry for 39 years as a basketball coach, special assistant, conference administrator, and consultant. Most recently, he spent 12 years as vice president for men’s basketball at the Big Ten Conference in Chicago. His role included oversight of event management, game operations, conduct policies, and officiating. During his tenure, Rick served as sport liaison to 31 head coaches, 30 athletic directors, and dozens of network television executives, arena directors, and NCAA stakeholders. As executive director of the Collegiate Officiating Consortium, LLC, he simultaneously directed men’s basketball officiating operations for 65 Division I institutions in 22 states. Boyages also served as an associate commissioner for the Mid-American Conference and as a special assistant to the athletic director at Ohio State University. His 19 years as a college basketball coach included stops at Ohio State, Boston College, William & Mary, and Bates College. He was an integral part of Big East and Big Ten championship seasons with Ohio State and Boston College, and coached in five NCAA Tournaments, two Elite Eight’s, and a Final Four with the Buckeyes in 1999. As a consultant, Rick has advised clients across sports tech, higher education, and professional/international basketball.

Retired U.S. Army Officer, Army Strategist for U.S. CENTCOM

Dr. Scott Smitson is the professor of practice of grand strategy and the director of the grand strategy Program at Denison. He is a retired US Army Officer, serving over 21 years on active duty in both combat arms and as an army strategist, to include strategic and operational planning leadership positions at U.S. CENTCOM, U.S. SOUTHCOM, the Joint Staff, United Nations Command-Korea, and the UK Ministry of Defence, as well as operational deployments and missions in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Inherent Resolve. While on active duty, Dr. Smitson was a faculty member of the Department of Social Science at West Point, and was an International Affairs Fellow with the Council on Foreign Relations. Smitson was the inaugural professor of geostrategy at Joint Special Operations University advising U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM) on issues related to geostrategy and geoeconomics. He was the founding director of SOCOM's Center for Adaptive and Innovative Statecraft, and supported special operations enterprise planning for NATO Special Operations Headquarters. He holds a joint PhD in Political Science and Public Policy from Indiana University and has published widely on grand strategy and security.

Bethany Klynn is the president and owner of Insight Leadership Consulting and has more than 25 years of experience in leadership development, executive coaching, and shaping organizational cultures. She works with leaders to help them gain new insights that accelerate their success and enable them to achieve even better results. She has significant experience developing C-suite leaders and their teams during times of change and transformation. Before starting her own company, Bethany held leadership roles at Fortune 200 companies for more than two decades. She was responsible for enterprise-wide leadership development, executive coaching, team development, employee engagement, shaping organizational cultures, and talent management. She has significant experience helping C-suite leaders identify and develop their teachable points of view and then teach those lessons to others. Bethany received her undergraduate degree in psychology and women’s studies from Colgate University and her M.A. and Ph.D. in industrial / organizational psychology from the Ohio State University. She is a professor of practice at Denison, teaching courses on psychology and leadership since 2020. She has also partnered with the Knowlton Center, Denison Edge, and the Organizational Studies program to deliver leadership development programming for students. Outside of Denison, she has taught at Capital University and the Ohio State University’s Fisher College of Business. She lives in Central Ohio with her husband Ben and their two children.

Jack Green serves as Executive Vice President and Chief Lending Officer at Adelphi Bank, a Columbus-based minority depository institution (MDI). With over 30 years of banking experience in the Columbus market, including tenures at Fifth Third Bank and WesBanco Bank, Green brings extensive expertise to his role. A lifelong Columbus resident and Northland High School graduate, he holds a BA in Communication Management from the University of Dayton. Green is deeply involved in the Columbus community. His current board memberships include The Special Olympics of Ohio and the Columbus City Schools Appropriations Committee. He also serves on the Minority Development Financing Advisory Board, appointed by former Governor John Kasich. Past board positions include The Multiethnic Advocates for Cultural Competence, the Ohio Tuition Trust Board, the Opera of Columbus, and Nothing into Something Inc. Green and his wife, Stephanie, reside in the Columbus area and have two adult children.

Ilaria Rawlins ’92 is the founder, president, and CEO of Fortuna Bank. She came to Ohio from Syracuse, New York, via Denison University. With over 30 years in banking, she has held numerous roles across various institutions. Notably, she was the senior vice president of retail development for First Bexley Bank, another de novo bank in Columbus, Ohio, and more recently served as the retail bank president at First Financial Bank. Her achievements have earned her a spot on Columbus Business First’s Power 100 list for two consecutive years. Outside of work, Rawlins is a bird nerd who enjoys spending time with her two daughters.

Global Head of Credit Risk, Asset & Wealth Management at JPMorgan Chase

Chuck Bellofatto is the global head of credit risk, asset and wealth management. In this role, he leads a team of global credit executives, underwriters, and special credit executives who provide analysis, approval, and portfolio management for tailored financing solutions. He also oversees a team of specialists focused on managing at-risk credit exposures, and partners with the asset wealth management business to provide guidance and analysis on global and regional portfolio nuances. Chuck joined the firm in 1989 as a rotational credit analyst at the former Bank One before it was acquired by JPMorgan Chase in 2004. Chuck has held roles across credit risk as an underwriter, lender, credit manager, portfolio administrator, credit executive, and global head of underwriting. In his current role, Chuck has continued to grow the credit risk organization, providing unique solutions to the firm’s clients alongside the lending advisory team. Chuck earned a bachelor’s degree from Denison and resides in Granville. He is passionate about supporting Folds of Honor, a nonprofit organization that provides educational scholarships to families of America’s fallen and disabled military service members.

Mr. Trautman serves as vice chair of the Park board of directors' executive committee. Mr. Trautman has served as chairman of the board of Park since May 2019. He served as Chief Executive Officer of Park from January 2014 through December 2025. He also served as president of Park from January 2005 through April 2019 and as secretary of Park from July 2002 to December 2013. Prior to January 2005, Mr. Trautman served in executive positions with Park National Bank and the then First-Knox National Bank Division for over 10 years.

Nick Gesue is a seasoned executive and investor with deep expertise in corporate leadership, real estate finance, capital markets, and seniors housing & care. He founded Alder View Capital in 2022 as an advisory and investment firm focused on delivering aligned capital solutions to operators in the housing and care sectors. In 2024, the Alder View team joined NewPoint Real Estate Capital, where Nick served as CEO and led a successful turnaround that culminated in the company’s $425 million sale to Franklin BSP Realty Trust in 2025. He stabilized operations, restructured leadership, and rebuilt market confidence. Following the transition of the company operations to the new buyers, Nick returned to lead Alder View Capital. Previously, Nick was CEO of Lancaster Pollard, where he helped scale the firm into a national leader in HUD and USDA lending. Over two decades, he advanced from early team member to Chief Credit Officer and ultimately CEO, shaping the company’s strategic direction, operational rigor, and market-leading reputation. After the firm’s $345 million sale toORIX USA in 2017, Nick led multiple M&A integrations, merging Lancaster Pollard with RED Capital and later with Hunt Real Estate Capital before ultimately rebranding it as Lument Capital. Nick brings a track record of sophisticated real estate capitalization as well as disciplined corporate leadership. He has demonstrated success building trusted platforms, driving execution excellence, and navigating complex organizational change. He holds a degree in economics from Denison and resides in Columbus, Ohio.

As the President and CEO at Accolade, JD Pisula leads a team of professionals who provide institutional investment advice, interest rate risk management, and balance sheet strategies to credit unions across the country. JD has a strong background in treasury and fixed-income portfolio management, having served as the Director of Investments at the Ohio Treasurer of State for 2.5 years. There, he managed investments of over $20 billion across seven fixed-income portfolios, including the STAR Ohio local government investment pool. He also co-created the Ohio Market Access Program, a $300 million credit enhancement product for municipal notes. JD is a CFA charterholder, holds a Series 65 license, and is a regular public speaker. He is passionate about providing innovative, customized solutions to his clients and about sharing his market insights and expertise with the credit union community.

In 2013, they served as the Market Segment Leader, Life Technologies at Thermo Fisher Scientific. From 2011 to 2012, they served as Head of Contracting and Procurement at the Stowers Institute for Medical Research. Laura also has experience with VWR, where they worked as the Business Development Director from 2008 to 2011 and as the Major Account Director from 2006 to 2008. Laura began their career at VWR in 1993 and held roles including Region Manager, Sales Representative, Inside Sales/On-Site Coordinator, and Quotations Specialist. Prior to their work in the scientific industry, Laura worked as an Educational Dance Instructor at the Kansas City Ballet from 2004 to 2005. Laura graduated from Denison in 1992 with a bachelor's degree in biology and dance.

Jim’s path to leadership has been marked by driving consumer brands and cross-cultural impact. Over 18 years at Nike, he held several senior executive roles, including VP of worldwide sales; VP, GM of Nike Japan; and VP, GM of Nike Russia, overseeing multi-billion-dollar global businesses and leading teams across continents. His business acumen was honed not only through high-level positions at Nike but also in early roles with firms such as leading advertising agencies Leo Burnett and The Richards Group, as well as serving as VP-general manager of Queen Anne Candy. A double major in English and economics at Denison, Jim later earned his MBA in corporate finance from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Oyauma Garrison serves as the CEO of Maryhaven, Inc., central Ohio’s oldest, most comprehensive treatment center for addiction and mental illness and the region’s eighth-largest nonprofit organization. Active in the community, Garrison has received numerous awards for leadership and community service. Honors and recognition include Top 50 Smart Business Leaders and CEO of the Year finalist, Columbus CEO; a Columbus Business First Most Admired C-Suite leader, and NBMBAA Lifetime Achievement Award. He has received an honorary doctorate from Franklin University for his community leadership. Garrison has been featured in several publications and delivered his first TedTalk on corporate social responsibility in 2016. He has been recognized with the United States of America Presidential 2014 Gold Standard Award for Community Service. Additionally, Garrison has been recognized twice by the Ohio General Assembly and by the Columbus City Council for his leadership. Garrison received his B.A. from Denison and his MBA from Franklin University. While at Denison, he was involved with DCGA and WDUB. He was also a member of Alpha Phi Alpha. Garrison has served on Denison’s Board of Advisors since 2019, on Alumni Council from 2003 to 2007, and as a career advisor from 1996 to 1999. He is also involved with the Black Alumni Association. A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Garrison is the proud father of Mya, Cameron, Carter, and Ava.

Granville resident David Hirsh is a graduate of the University of Texas with a degree in business and a major in marketing. After starting his retail career in St. Louis at May Department Stores, Hirsh came to Ohio to join Limited Brands in 1990 as a merchant for Victoria’s Secret Stores and their new beauty division. He was responsible for merchandising and product development, and he traveled extensively throughout Europe and Asia for trend and sourcing. In 1995, Hirsh co-founded Atrium Corporation where he serves as CEO working with national and international specialty retail brands to design, develop, and source fashion-right, brand-right, and high-quality products for customers including Homage, Victoria’s Secret, Mac Tools, and Pelotonia. Over the past 20 years, Atrium has started, grown, bought, and sold many businesses, evolving with changing retail customer needs and market conditions. Hirsh is also a partner at real estate investment firm, Main & High Investments. He resides in Granville with his wife of 30 years and has three children — all of whom have a true passion for the fashion retail industry — and four grandchildren who have given him his favorite role yet!

Vail Visiting Artist Program

The Vail Visiting Artist program brings working artists at all stages of their careers to Denison to provide 1:1 feedback, support, and mentorship, as well as a vision of some of the different ways in which art can function, question, and articulate experience in the world.

Playwright-in-Residence Program

In 1994, Denison Theatre alumnus, playwright Jonathan R. Reynolds ’65, established a foundation that funds an every-other-year residency for a noted playwright to spend a semester at Denison, teaching a course in playwriting and preparing a new play for production.
