Each year Denison offers a variety of experiential programs for Denison students to enhance their leadership skills, explore entrepreneurial opportunities, and contribute to the greater good in January before spring semester starts.

BreakAway is a national organization that gives young men and women the chance to serve in different capacities in varying cities across the United States. Denison’s BreakAway Chapter offers several week-long service trips during the last week of Winter Break. Prior to the trips taking off, students spend time with their group leaders and group members discussing their topic, location, service-learning, and preparing for their direct service in the communities they will serve.
The trip topics in recent years have covered topics such as Education, Economics, and Civil Rights in the 21st Century. Students have a unique chance to leave Denison and Granville to delve into some of the most pressing issues of our generation hands on.
January 11, 2014- January 18, 2014.
Prior to this week of service, all groups meet in the Fall Semester beginning in mid-October/early November.

Every participant pays a $100 fee. However, there are partial waivers available and they are distributed to those that express financial need via a separate application process.

Habitat for Humanity is an organization that helps build houses for those in need. During the Winter Break Trip, Habitat sends volunteers off to different places within the US with the purpose of helping build a house.
January 12th to January 18th
This 2013-2014 school year Winter break trip will be one to remember! It will take place January 12th 2014 to January 18th 2014.
There is a low cost between 50 and 75 dollars. Fee waivers are available on a need basis.

Classroom work will include meetings with successful Denison alumni and will be supplemented with field trips to nearby entrepreneurial organizations. Ultimately, the goal of this non-credit bearing workshop is to help prepare students for a range of further entrepreneurial experiences throughout their lives, from internships and jobs to civic projects and volunteer organizations.
If a student’s aspirations include launching something new that creates value, she or he will benefit from participation in the on-campus workshop. The workshop is directed by Dr. David Przybyla, Director of Organizational Studies Certificate Program and Associate Professor of Psychology.
DATES: January 12-17, 2014
Students will be provided housing on Denison’s campus for the week for a nominal fee of approximately $60. This fee may be waived for Pell grant recipients or others that demonstrate need. Materials for the workshop and most meals will also be provided. The workshop is free and open to 25 current Denison students. Students from all majors are encouraged to apply.

The LeaderShape Institute challenges participants to lead with integrity while working towards a vision grounded in their deepest values. Participants explore not only what they want to do, but who they want to be.
Dynamic, challenging, and exciting, the week is intended to produce a breakthrough in the leadership capacity of participants — benefiting them individually, as well as their respective communities and the organizations they will go on to lead and serve in the future.
The LeaderShape Institute is a 6-day, living-learning experience. It is an institute, not a conference, which means that all participants experience the same programs, discussions, and activities at the same pace. The LeaderShape Institute is the flagship program of LeaderShape, Inc. and is widely recognized as the premier leadership program for young adults in the nation.
