Powering the Future of Flight

John Pyles ’03

Senior Engineer/Technologist at GE Aviation, US

The world is shrinking! A trip from New York to London now takes hours compared to weeks just a century ago. The aviation industry has pioneered new technologies over the last 50 years that have led to a 70% fuel reduction per seat and decreasing CO2 and NOx emissions. Lighter materials, smarter propulsion systems, and advanced blade designs will power our next generation of aircraft. However, we are reaching the limits of the Brayton cycle and our current aircraft designs. What will future propulsion systems and aircraft look like in 50 years? 100 years? John Pyles ’03 will present an overview of the past, present, and future of the aviation industry and how GE is focused on leading the next generation of aircraft engine design.
