Join us as we welcome visiting artist Ryan Feddersen, creator of ‘Black Snake Rising,’ currently on view at the Denison Museum through May 13, 2022. Ryan Feddersen will discuss how she develops her creating interactive murals, site-specific installations, and immersive public artworks that invite audience engagement.

Pouring in as a coiling nest, this sea of oil depicts black snakes flowing in a progression of life-scale petroleum-based products transitioning into species most affected by oil spills. The artwork’s scale and implied motion amplify the impression of being drowned in an ocean filled with our necessities, indulgences, and consequences. The audience is invited to contribute to the growing accumulation by adding a vinyl decal of an item they use every day.

This exhibition was made possible with generous support from the Laura C. Harris series and Art Bridges.

Masks are strongly encouraged during the artist talk.
