A Time Most “Un” Civil

February 12, 2015 - May 16, 2015

Issues of ethnicity and identity are brought to the forefront through the work of world-renown artist Kara Walker. Originally printed in 1866, Harper’s Pictorial History of the Civil War is enlarged and layered with Walker’s iconic use of racially charged silhouettes. The resulting combination invites new readings into the past as well as the present. Join us as we celebrate and discuss the past, present, and future of our collective and individual cultures.
