'How reincarnation works'

Denison University’s Department of Philosophy and the Titus-Hepp Lecture Series welcomes Justin Mooney from the University of Alberta presenting “How reincarnation works.”

Is rebirth (reincarnation) possible? I approach this question by considering the most popular views about the metaphysics of the human person. I argue that, for each of these views, there is at least one plausible account of how rebirth could occur. The upshot is that the prospects for the possibility of rebirth are bright. At the very least, the possibility of rebirth is not highly sensitive to the outcome of debates about the metaphysics of the human person, contrary to what some authors seem to have supposed. 

Mooney is a Killam Memorial Postdoctoral Fellow in the Philosophy Department at the University of Alberta. Previously, he was a visiting assistant professor in the Philosophy Department at Denison University, and completed a Ph.D. in Philosophy at the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2022. He specializes in metaphysics and the philosophy of religion, but also has interests in ethics and Asian philosophy.
