Theta Alpha Kappa

Theta Alpha Kappa (TAK) is the premier international honor society for students who excel in religious studies. Founded in 1976 at Manhattan College, TAK celebrates academic achievement and opens doors to exclusive opportunities that extend far beyond graduation.

As a TAK member, you’ll join an elite community recognized by the Association of College Honor Societies. Theta Alpha Kappa is also an affiliate scholarly organization of the American Academy of Religion and the Society of Biblical Literature.

Your membership demonstrates to graduate schools and employers that you’ve achieved excellence in one of the humanities’ most challenging and rewarding fields.

Up to $1,000 in Undergraduate Awards

• The Clark Award — Submit your best paper for a chance to win $1,000 (1st place), $500 (2nd place), or $250 (3rd place) in TAK’s national undergraduate paper competition. Winners are also published in TAK’s peer-reviewed journal. For more information and submission instructions, visit thetaalphakappa.org/clark-awards.
• TAK Undergraduate Achievement Award — $100 prize for exceptional academic excellence awarded annually by the Religion department.

Graduate Fellowship awards — Three fellowships awarded annually to national TAK members pursuing graduate programs in religious studies or theology (eligibility extends three years post-graduation). For more information, visit thetaalphakappa.org/graduate-fellowship-competition.

• Formal induction ceremony with the Department of Religion

• Declared major or minor in religion
• 3.5 GPA in at least 4 REL courses
• 3.3 overall GPA or higher

• When: Every fall for students eligible by September
• Cost: $30 one-time induction fee (scholarships available)
