Are college gyms free? There is no extra cost to use the gym, pool, or other facilities at Denison, and you don’t have to be an athlete. It’s a great way to meet people and try classes from yoga to pilates!
Can I change my college major?
Absolutely. At Denison you don’t declare until your sophomore year’s second semester and even then you can still switch. Drop a major, add a major, pick up a minor. Your advisor has your back.

Julia Pandaleon ’27 spent her summer researching two native ant species. After five weeks observing their behavior and parasitic relationship, she is now investigating the brain structures of both species, focusing on size differences in key areas.
Denison’s Summer Scholars Program allows students from all disciplines to explore a topic of their choosing and learn outside of a traditional grade or credit focused environment.
Set on a hill overlooking picturesque Granville, Ohio, Denison Docents follows the antics of summer university tour guides as they navigate the complexities of talking while walking backward. Sadly, this sitcom was shelved before the pilot was complete, but follow along this summer to see our docents show off Denison’s beautiful campus, answer your pressing questions, and hold hands while running across Reese~Shackelford Common.
We often say college shouldn’t be the best four years of your life, which sounds a bit peculiar until you know what we mean: We don’t want you to peak here on The Hill. We want you to come back in 50 years and marvel at the life you’ve lived and the role Denison played in who you became.

Denison alum Steve Carell visited Granville, Ohio, during Big Red Weekend 2024, sharing career highlights and his favorite tunes with students.
Would you lace up some bowling shoes and hit the lanes between classes? Denisonians of the ‘60s certainly did!
When Slayter Union was constructed in 1962, a bowling alley was placed on the third floor. This became a social hot spot for students and faculty alike. Denison even had a bowling team that competed across the Midwest. 🎳
While the lanes were removed during Slayter’s renovation in the ‘90s, some memorabilia is safely stored in our university archives.
Denison’s 350-acre Biological Reserve was founded in the late 1960s with the goal of taking students’ learning out of the classroom and into nature.🌲🌿
Since then, it has provided generations of Denisonians with opportunities for hands-on learning and real-world experiences.
Today, the Bio Reserve is a popular spot for taking a break and reconnecting with nature, thanks to the 16 hiking trails winding through it. The Bio Reserve is also home to 13 research sites, 10 habitats, and a 10-acre solar array pollinator habitat, the first of its kind in Ohio. 🐝☀️🌻
Denison’s men’s soccer knocked out the nation’s top-ranked team, the University of Mary Washington, 1-0 in the NCAA Division III Tournament on Nov. 23, 2024.
During Big Red Weekend, Burpee’s Seedy Theatrical Company alumni returned to The Hill for a reunion show.
