Biography

Max furthers The Center’s diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives through educational opportunities, gender and sexuality programming, and campus climate work. In particular, they support the Belonging and Inclusion Certificate and Forward Scholars program.

Max’s perspective on DEI emerges from their research and previous teaching experience in Gender and Women’s Studies, which emphasizes the interlocking aspects of multiple forms of oppression. Their doctoral research intervened into queer theory to consider how climate change impacts the queer and crip futures we’re able to imagine and enact.

Across their professional and personal experiences, Max has been driven by a passion for making the world a more socially just place. As a queer, non-binary, disabled person, Max understands social justice as intersectional and coalitional. Ultimately, they strive to make the university a space where students from historically marginalized backgrounds feel like they belong.

Outside of work, Max enjoys listening to podcasts and audiobooks, spinning (indoor cycling), and hanging out with their three cats and one step-cat, Katya, Shark, Nymeria, and Dennis. They are always eager to show off pictures of their cats and welcome you to stop by their office to say hi!
