Earth Day was first celebrated in 1970, and today our planet is celebrated in events that take place around the world. Denison sponsors a full week of events that highlight sustainability, wellness and the Homestead, Denison’s sustainable living/learning lab.
Schedule of Events
- Monday, April 22 @ Lunch – Curtis Dining – Impossible demo table collaboration with VEG featuring Impossible Tamales and Impossible Vanscoy Lettuce Wraps.
- Monday, April 22 @ 5:30pm – Sustainability Dinner & Documentary – Huffman Hall Presidents’ Dining Room. The film is More Than Honey.
- Tuesday, April 23 All Day – Earth Hour – Pay attention to the energy we use by turning off unnecessary lights and appliances. Ask your professors to hold class outside or without the lights on.
- Wednesday, April 24 @ 12:30pm – Arbor Day – Celebrate our campus treescape and the birthday of one of our iconic A-Quad trees. Meet in front of Doane.
- Thursday, April 25 @ Lunch – Curtis & Huffman – Sustainability themed meal and activity. Make Plants the Star and Meat the Accent.
- Thursday, April 25 @ 4:30pm – Sustainable Farm Tour – Join Bon Appetit on a tour of Raccoon Creek Farms’ hydroponic greenhouse. To sign-up contact Piper Fernwey
- Friday, April 26 @ 8:30am, 12:30pm, 4:30pm - Solar Array Tours – Walking tour of the solar array. Meet at the softball/baseball parking lot.
- Friday, April 26 starting @ 4:30pm – Aestavalia – Celebrate the coming of Spring and Earth Week by attending the ZERO WASTE Aestavalia picnic on A-Quad and the Campus Commons.
- Saturday, April 27 from 9:00am – 2:00pm – Service Event – Volunteer your time with Together We Grow Gardens in Newark. Please contact Shelby Tour – tour_s1 if you are interested.
- Sunday, April 28 from 2:00pm – 4:00pm – Invasive Plant Removal – Meet at the Polly Anderson Field Station and volunteer your time to improve the Bio Reserve by helping us remove invasive garlic mustard. Wear appropriate clothing – pants, close-toed shoes, long-sleeves.
- Sunday, April 28 from 4:00pm – 7:00pm – HOME – An Earth Day celebration and festival at the Denison Homestead.
- Sunday, April 28 @ 7:15pm – Sunset Hike at the Bio Reserve - Meet at the Polly Anderson Field Station for an hour hike.
