Decolonizing the Everyday

The Laura C. Harris Series is pleased to welcome Dr. Cricket Keating and her workshop, “Decolonizing the Everyday: Popular Education & Decolonial Praxis.” 

Key to decolonial praxis is learning to know ourselves and one another anew as we unlearn logics of domination and cultivate more liberatory ways of being, relating, and understanding. This interactive workshop explores the everyday practice of moving against the grain of coloniality in our lives. Together, we will work against the tendency to think of “the political” only in terms of mass movements or goal-oriented action. Instead, we will attend to moments of opening — in conversations, relationships, and our encounters with the world around us — as sites of decolonial practice. As we get to know one another in this way, we will look for opportunities to collaborate and support one another as we cultivate a coalitional convivencia that is deeply attuned to one another and to our possibilities for living otherwise.

Cricket Keating is the Laura C. Harris Scholar-in-Residence for the Fall 2026 semester at Denison University. Dr. Keating is an Associate Professor in the Gender, Women, & Sexuality Studies Department at the University of Washington-Seattle. Her research is in the areas of political theory, decolonial politics, popular education and critical pedagogy, and technofeminism.
