Join the Department of Theatre for this fully-staged virtual production of Lauren Gunderson’s “The Revolutionists.” This feminist comedy contemplates creativity in a time of great chaos, offering its audience a rollicking two hour rollercoaster ride.  Playwright Olympe De Gouges, assassin Charlotte Corday, and deposed queen Marie Antoinette join Haitian rebel Marianne Angelle as they check in, murder Marat, lose their heads and try to beat back the extremist insanity of Paris in 1793.

Marianne Angells looks fondly to the note attached to Marie’s gift of a small China teacup, with a pink ribbon attached.
Three Fraternité, wearing masks, operate a puppet of a French court official, who runs the trials of Charlotte, Marie, and Olympe.
Olympe de Gouges stands in front of the three Fraternité, who puppeteer a representation of the French courts.
Olympe de Gouges looks up at the three Fraternité, who stand on the scaffolds, bathed in red light, for Olympe’s execution.
Charlotte Corday proudly brandishes the steak knife she intends to use to assassinate Marat with, as Olympe de Gouges nervously looks at her.
Marianne Angells tensely addresses Charlotte Corday, who rolls her eyes. Olympe de Gouges uncomfortably watches them from her desk.
Olympe de Gouges sits at her desk, struck by a new idea on what to write about the current revolution.
Marie Antoinette enters the salon wearing a floral pink gown, joyfully adjusting her large white wig.
Marie Antoinette kneels beside Marianne Angells, who sits at the desk and looks worriedly at her unsent letters to her husband.
Marianne Angells and Marie Antoinette hold hands and look warmly to each other in a newfound friendship.
