The Queer Studies Program is sponsoring a screening of the cult classic, Hedwig and the Angry Inch. There will be a short introduction and a discussion following the film. And there will be snacks!
Hedwig and the Angry Inch is a 2001 American musical comedy-drama film written for the screen and directed by John Cameron Mitchell, based on his and Stephen Trask’s 1998 stage musical.
In the film, Hedwig Robinson, an East German rock singer, develops a relationship with a younger man, Tommy. Hedwig becomes Tommy’s mentor and musical collaborator, only to have Tommy steal her music and run off to become a rock star. The film explores Hedwig’s past as Hedwig and her backing band, the Angry Inch, shadow Tommy’s tour.
