Academic Funding for Students & Faculty
Student Opportunities
The Lisska Center for Intellectual Engagement serves as a funding hub for student research and travel for academic enhancement purposes, such as giving a presentation at an academic conference, attending a workshop, or accompanying a professor on a research trip. We are committed to helping all students take advantage of valuable opportunities, regardless of financial need. Grants are made on a rolling basis.
The Lisska Center for Intellectual Engagement administers four funds to help students:
Student Academic Travel: The Lisska Center will provide up to $750 in funding to cover travel, lodging, conference fees, poster printing, and meals (not covered by the conference) for Denison students who are presenting their research at a conference or participating in a performance or workshop.
Student Research Funding: The Lisska Center’s Student Research Fund provides grants of up to $500/student for academic-year and senior research projects.
Academic Enhancement Fund: The Academic Enhancement Fund supports individuals or small groups of students wishing to travel for an academic purpose not associated with a regular semester course or study abroad program. The purpose of this fund is to enhance a student’s academic experience, build on their coursework, and prepare them for a possible career within an academic context.
Dr. David Baker Endowed Fund for Experiential Learning (creative writing and poetry students): This fund supports students seeking to attend literary conferences, workshops, or similar events.
Faculty Opportunities
The Lisska Center supports Denison faculty in several ways, including through course enhancement funding as well as by supporting Research Tables developed by faculty. Please review the information below and reach out to the Lisska Center with questions.
Faculty Course Enhancement Fund: A limited number of grants of up to $500 are available each year to faculty who wish to enhance the academic experience for the students in a class they are teaching.
Research Tables: The Lisska Center funds up to three proposals each year for Research Tables. These Research Tables bring together faculty from a variety of departments to focus on multidisciplinary issues and sustain intellectual exploration within the liberal arts.
