What you'll study as a Global Health major
The global health major leverages knowledge from across the liberal arts to understand what affects population, community, and individual health patterns and issues. You’ll gain qualitative and quantitative skills as you explore global health through social and natural sciences, humanities, and the arts.
Build your core
Explore health research methods, learn basic concepts in epidemiology, and analyze the systems and policies influencing global health.
Explore through electives
Investigate topics such as global health and nutrition, social determinants of health, planetary health, and women’s health.
Apply your knowledge
Monitor and evaluate global health programs, policies, and outcomes. Integrate accumulated knowledge in a senior capstone project.
Expanded language and culture requirement
Expand your knowledge of a language other than English to gain cultural competence and deepen your understanding of the societal issues that affect population health in your chosen region. Language skills beyond English are essential for those seeking international careers.
Experiential learning requirement
Practice your skills in a real-world setting during a local or global internship or volunteer position, or participate in a study abroad experience connected to health care.
Global health research
Opportunities to conduct global health research alongside faculty mentors. Research topics may include mental health accessibility during the COVID-19 pandemic, health care accessibility and experiences in the Latino community, and high school sex education patterns in Appalachia.
Jobs as a Global Health major
Global health majors are prepared to enter a wide variety of organizations, including health systems corporations, government agencies, and consulting firms. Recent graduates are affiliated with USI Insurance, Nationwide Children’s Hospital, and Cigna Healthcare.
Further education as a global health major
Denison Global Health graduates may pursue additional training in medical school, nursing school, public or global health (MS or PhD), epidemiology, and health administration.

Beyond the Classroom
Internships
Use an internship to explore careers related to global health. Recent majors have interned for a regional Hospice organization, the Columbus area Community Refugee & Immigration Services, and Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
Study Abroad
Study in a global location to enhance your knowledge of health policy & practices, compare health systems, and deepen your understanding of factors influencing population health. Conduct research or work while abroad, such as interning at local hospitals, the Red Cross, or UNICEF.
Summer Scholars
Delve into research through our paid summer scholar program. All Summer Scholars receive a stipend, housing allowance, and supplemental funds for research expenses.
