What big problem will you solve?

What genes are involved in the spread of cancer? What are the possible effects of climate change? What effect would the extinction of a species have on an ecosystem? What inventory strategy will maximize profit for a business? How can we predict the spread of an infectious disease? What voting systems are fair? How can we predict the orbit of planets around the sun?

Computation and mathematical modeling are becoming increasingly central to answering questions like these across diverse segments of the natural sciences, social sciences, and engineering. Computational Science is used across many fields to construct mathematical models for these problems, and then design computer algorithms and simulations to solve them.
