Many years ago my nursing career began due to a basic sense of wanting to help others and that holds true today. I have spent the majority of my nursing career as a practicing Family Nurse Practitioner in the settings of primary care, preoperative care, urgent care, emergency care and college health. My approach for helping other has evolved and, especially over my years at Denison, I have come to understand that wellness is not merely the absence of illness, but instead is a continuum of spiritual, social, emotional, physical, and financial well being. When any of theses elements are out of balance there is a ripple effect that ultimately impacts our students overall success. In addition, I also have a special interest in the health care disparites of the LGBTQ population. Specifically, how the staff of the Wellness Center can improve upon those disparities with the Denison LGBTQ student population.
