“Such Sweet Thunder” features some of the Midwest’s finest jazz musicians paying loving tribute to the music of Duke Ellington and his musical partner Billy Strayhorn. This project is a labor of love sparked by Ryan Hamilton, Denison instructor of low brass and jazz trombone, and Tony Gayle McClung, and brought to life by the fantastic musicians they’ve lined up. The band consists of Michael Cox, alto saxophone and clarinet; Bryan Olsheski, tenor saxophone and clarinet; Mark Donavan, baritone saxophone and clarinet; Jim Powell, trumpet; Ryan Hamilton, trombone and arrangements; Lucas Holmes, piano; Denison instructor Dean Hulett, bass; and Tony Gayle McClung, drums.
