Nan Nowik Writer-in-Residence
The Nan Nowik Writer-in-Residence brings notable writers to The Hill for residencies that stretch across an academic year. Coordinated by the Department of English, the residency offers Denison students many opportunities to connect with and learn from acclaimed poets and writers, as well as literary scholars and critics.
Established in 2015 by Kathryn ’79 and Stephen Correia, the Nan Nowik Writer-in-Residence honors Kathryn Correia’s advisor, Associate Professor of English Nan Nowik, a teacher and scholar of women’s literature who taught at Denison from 1972 to 1988.
The Nowik Writer-in-Residence program provides a unique opportunity for students to engage with distinguished literary figures throughout an entire academic year. By bringing notable writers to The Hill for extended residencies, the program creates multiple touchpoints for meaningful interaction between students and accomplished scholars and writers.
Rather than brief visits or single lectures, the year-long format allows students to develop deeper connections with visiting writers, gaining insight into their creative processes, receiving feedback on their own work, and participating in ongoing conversations about literature and the craft of writing. This sustained engagement enriches the campus literary community and provides invaluable mentorship opportunities.
