Gena Grant ’15
When I graduated from Denison in 2015 with my BA in Women’s and Gender Studies, I knew what I was passionate about, but I had no idea how to turn it into a career. I considered going to graduate school for psychology, but quickly realized it wasn’t the right path for me when the package I knew contained my GRE prep books remained unopened for weeks. It took some time away from academia and working in a bakery and with a local mental health organization that gave me the perspective and distance that I needed to consider my next big professional step. I learned about working in higher education as a career path from a friend and ended up pursuing my MA in Higher Education and Student Affairs. During my MA program, I realized that my past experiences at Denison and beyond had a common thread: serving and empowering others. While interning at Otterbein University’s career center, it became clear that my calling was to support others in their career journeys. Since then, I have been dedicated to this field and have loved every moment!
My career development philosophy is that if you listen to yourself and make decisions that are in line with your values and interests, you’ll end up right where you need to be; I am obviously a product of that very process! I am here to support you in that journey of self-discovery; to listen and never judge you, and to be your cheerleader and advocate as you follow its twists and turns.
For the past five years, I have served as the Veterinary Career Counselor at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Now, as the Associate Director of the Healthcare, Clinical Research and Wellbeing Career Community, I am excited to leverage my experience to support students pursuing various healthcare fields.
I live in Columbus with my husband, Jack, and our two feline children, Luna and Peanut. I love food, cats (clearly), gardening (I’m trying), watching movies, and traveling.
