Biography

Dioswal Cook, M.A., LPCC (pronouns: she/they), is an experienced licensed professional clinical counselor who works with adults across a broad spectrum of mental health concerns. Her specialty areas include complex trauma, personality disorders, addiction, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, career development, and women’s issues. She is particularly passionate about working with BIPOC individuals and providing affirming care to diverse communities.

Dioswal has extensive experience working with individuals navigating pregnancy-related mental health challenges, as well as those managing co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders. Her therapeutic approach is evidence-based and uniquely tailored to each client, incorporating modalities such as dialectical behavior therapy, motivational interviewing, eclectic therapy, and elements of internal family systems theory. She also emphasizes the mind-body connection through somatic therapy.

Dioswal earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from The University of Akron, followed by a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling. Her background includes a decade of experience in higher education, specializing in recruitment, retention, case management, and career development. Prior to transitioning fully into counseling, she worked extensively with diverse populations, including college students, survivors of intimate partner violence, women in inpatient addiction treatment, and individuals with significant trauma histories.

Most recently, Dioswal worked in private practice at Wellness Grove, where she expanded her expertise in treating men, complex trauma, and personality disorders. Previously, she served as the MOMS (Maternal Opiate Medical Supports) Coordinator at CHC Addiction Services, a community mental health agency in Akron, Ohio, that assists with substance use and other co-occurring disorders. In this role, she oversaw clinical services for pregnant and postpartum individuals with substance use concerns, ensuring trauma-sensitive, high-quality care.

Beyond clinical work, Dioswal is deeply committed to advocacy and community engagement. She has held leadership roles in organizations such as Torchbearers Akron and served as the 2022 Chairwoman for the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women Campaign in the Greater Akron and Canton area.

Dioswal’s counseling style is holistic, strengths-based, trauma-informed, and direct. She is known for her warmth, authenticity, and use of humor, believing that laughter can be a powerful therapeutic tool. Her strengths include compassion, creativity, effective communication, problem-solving, and a deep commitment to learning and growth.

When she’s not in therapist mode, you can find Dioswal throwing around heavy weights at the gym like a total powerhouse, flowing through yoga poses (sometimes gracefully, sometimes…not), and dancing her heart out to salsa music. She loves experimenting in the kitchen—whether that means cooking up a comforting meal or testing out a new dessert that her family may or may not approve of. She’s also a voracious reader, devouring books like they’re going out of style—whether it’s a deep psychological read, dystopian fiction, or a guilty-pleasure romance. Most of all, she cherishes time with her husband and two daughters, who keep her life full of love, laughter, and just the right amount of chaos.
