Biography

Christian Faur joined Denison University in 2001. He is the director of collaborative technologies for the fine arts, a role that places him at the intersection of technology, teaching, and creative collaboration across the Departments of Art, Cinema, Dance, Music, and Theatre. He designs and teaches courses in animation, stop motion, virtual reality, digital fabrication, and data art, and he develops the specialized computing labs, fabrication spaces, and performance environments that support fine and performing arts education across the division. His background in physics (B.S., California State University, Northridge) and new media (MFA, University of Danube, Krems, Austria) shapes a teaching philosophy rooted in experimentation, interdisciplinary thinking, and hands-on making.

Beyond the classroom, Christian serves as a technical advisor and artistic collaborator to faculty and students throughout the fine and performing arts, working directly with students on independent projects, training student assistants, and teaching guest sessions in colleagues’ courses. As a projection designer, he creates original moving imagery for theatre, dance, and live music productions at Denison and has extended this practice to professional venues including the Wexner Center for the Arts, the Columbus Museum of Art, and the Wortham Center for the Performing Arts in Asheville. He is also an internationally recognized artist whose independent work explores the intersection of science, data, and visual perception through unconventional materials, with exhibitions at venues including Kim Foster Gallery in New York and the Daejeon Museum of Art in South Korea, and features in PBS NewsHour and American Craft Magazine. His contributions have been recognized with Columbus Alive’s “Best Stage Design” award, multiple Ohio Arts Council Individual Excellence Awards, and selection for the U.S. Art in Embassies program in Prague.
