The Denison University Gospel Choir, directed by Tim Carpenter, presents its spring concert, “In Remembrance: A Tribute to Richard Smallwood.” The concert celebrates the music of contemporary gospel songwriter Smallwood.
Smallwood (Nov. 30, 1948–Dec. 30, 2025) was a pioneering American gospel artist, composer and pianist known for blending classical music with traditional gospel. A graduate of Howard University, he founded the Richard Smallwood Singers, composed enduring works such as “Total Praise” and “Center of My Joy,” received multiple awards and was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame.
