Questions:

The final American Roots concert this semester will feature the music of Emmylou Harris, an iconic singer and songwriter who played a crucial role in the bridging of genres during the 1970’s.

From her work with Gram Parsons and involvement in the creation of the west coast country-rock scene to her blending of Bluegrass and Country sounds through collaborations with Sam Bush, Ricky Skaggs, Harris has a large and diverse catalog of remarkable music. The hard part for the roots ensemble was narrowing down which material to present.

We will also be joined by award winning singer/songwriter Caroline Spence ‘11 for the performance. Caroline is a Denison alumni now living and working in Nashville as a full time songwriter. She will also be joining us for the fall 2026 semester teaching songwriting and working with the American Roots students to develop their music.
