The Lisska Center for Intellectual Engagement presents “The 2024 Election: A Roundtable Discussion” moderated by Diana Mafe (Director of the Lisska Center) and featuring Ned Foley (Ohio State University, Moritz College of Law) Kathleen Hall Jamieson (University of Pennsylvania, Annenberg Public Policy Center) and Ciara Torres-Spelliscy (Stetson University, Brennan Center for Justice at New York University School of Law).

2024 has already proven to be a memorable election year. As we look ahead to November 5 th (and beyond), how do we navigate this political season? How do we mitigate polarization and prioritize civil discourse? Join us for a roundtable discussion with three experts who will weigh in on everything from election law and campaign finance to partisanship and voter turnout. 

Foley holds the Ebersold Chair in Constitutional Law at The Ohio State University, where he also directs its election law program. He is a 2023 Guggenheim Fellow and the author of Ballot Battles: The History of Disputed Elections in the United States (revised edition 2024) and Presidential Elections and Majority Rule (2020). 

Jamieson is the Elizabeth Ware Packard Professor at the Annenberg School for Communication of the University of Pennsylvania, the Walter and Leonore Annenberg Director of the Annenberg Public Policy Center, Program Director of the Annenberg Foundation Trust at Sunnylands, and cofounder of FactCheck.org. She has authored or co-authored 18 books, including Democracy Amid Crises: Polarization, Pandemic, Protests, and Persuasion (2023) and Creating Conspiracy Beliefs: How Our Thoughts Are Shaped (2022). 

Torres-Spelliscy is a Brennan Center Fellow and Professor of Law at Stetson University College of Law. She has testified before Congress as an expert on campaign finance and helped draft Supreme Court briefs. She is the author of Political Brands (2019), Corporate Citizen?: An Argument for the Separation of Corporation and State (2016), and the forthcoming book Corporatocracy: How to Protect Democracy from Dark Money and Corrupt Politicians (2024).
