Professor Ching-chu Hu has been commissioned to compose two pieces that will debut this fall.
The first is a commission by Chamber Music Columbus for which Hu plays a pivotal role in celebrating the 75th Anniversary of Chamber Music Columbus. He is writing the musical theme to be used throughout the anniversary year. His commissioned piece, “Chamber Music Columbus Fanfare: Celebrating 75 years” will be performed by the American Brass Quintet on October 8.
“The work I have written for them is a whole that is then “taken apart” by each of the other ensembles, almost forming a “puzzle” for the entire work, it’s kind of cool,” says Hu.
The second debut is by the Newark Granville Symphony on October 15, for their “Home of the Brave” program.
Hu has set the words of poem entitled, “Please Remember Me” for a tenor and orchestra. The poem is by Danny Crothers, a Newark Vietnam Marine Vet, who died in combat back in 1969. The poem was enclosed in a letter to his mother.
