Supplying the Demand: Denison's Innovative New Finance Major
Learn about how Denison’s newly launched Bachelor of Science in Finance equips students with a deep understanding of financial theory, economic systems, and quantitative analysis, preparing them for careers in finance, business, government, and nonprofit sectors. The Finance major includes rigorous technical courses while embracing the liberal arts in content, curriculum, and pedagogy. Students have many applied learning opportunities through use of Bloomberg terminals, real-world data analysis and research, participation in competitions, and a senior capstone. Ethical reasoning, interdisciplinary perspectives, and communication skills are integrated throughout the program, reinforcing Denison’s commitment to preparing graduates who think critically and act responsibly in a rapidly evolving financial landscape.
About the Speaker
Emily C. Marshall, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Economics at Denison University and Director of Quantitative Initiatives. Her research interests include monetary economics, macroeconomic finance, public economics, behavioral economics, and economic education and has been published in journals such as Macroeconomic Dynamics, Justice Quarterly, Journal of Macroeconomics, the American Economic Association Papers and Proceedings, and the Southern Economic Journal. Emily is active in the economics teaching community, serving on the American Economic Association’s Committee on Economic Education, as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Economic Education, and as co-organizer of the Presidential Sessions on Economic Education at the Southern Economic Association meetings. She regularly teaches Intermediate Macroeconomic Theory, Econometrics and Advanced Econometrics, and upper-level courses on the Great Recession and Asset Price Bubbles and Financial Crises.
