“You on the Moors Now”
By Jaclyn Backhaus
Directed by Eleni Papaleonardos
This meta-fictional exploration of four classic nineteenth century novels of feminist literature turns convention and societal norms upside down in a grand theatrical battle royale. In this contemplative comedy, Elizabeth Bennet (Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen) Jo March (Little Women by Louisa May Alcott) Cathy (Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë) and Jane (Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë) confront Mr. Darcy, Laurie Laurence, Heathcliff, and Mr. Rochester resulting in a confluence of love, anger, grief, and bloodshed as the ensemble struggles to reconcile romantic ideologies of the past with their modern ideas of courtship.
