Francis Kalomba-Ngoy '19 knows that words have power. His nomination for his favorite high school teacher boosted her into the winners circle for the National Society of High School Scholars Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction. Lydia Brady of Oyster Bay High School was recognized for her work in a ceremony in the fall of 2015. Here are Kalomba-Ngoy words:

“First of all, I would like to thank my parents, brothers, sisters and all Oyster Bay High School teachers, coaches, custodians, and the board of education for the work they are doing together to make sure students succeed. There are many educators in my high school journey who are highly qualified to be educators of distinction in the well-respected Oyster Bay East Norwich School District. However, there is one educator in particular who has been there for me not only for her class related assignments, but for assignments in all my high school classes.

“That wonderful and passionate English educator is Ms. Lydia Brady. She was my 11 grade English teacher who always pushed me to do my best on my papers and to write to the best of my ability. She has always been there and was very supportive to me in and out the classroom. The best part is, she is always willing to help students who are willing to give her a chance to help them. She always make extra time to help her students after school, and make sure they succeed.

“Now in my senior year, she is my College Essay Writing class teacher. She has contributed greatly to my college application process, combining with the school guidance office, and all amazing teachers and coaches who wrote me recommendations. She has not only done great things, and contributed to my high school success, but she has done so for my fellow Baymen, and Lady-Baymen as well. Words can never express how thankful I am to her life changing contribution to my high school journey.

“She has passion for teaching, and seeing her students succeed beyond high school; that is the greatest gift an educator can give to a student. She has given me that gift, and I will cherish forever. Only God will repay her greatly for me and for many! A proud and thankful Bayman, Francis Kalombo Ngoy.”
