During COVID-19, Denison’s music department wanted to do something to create a sense of community - the result - a great T-shirt shared with Denison music students across the world.

Professor Ching-chu Hu tells the story.

When the pandemic hit, and our students had to scatter all around the world, we wanted to do something that can still create a sense of community during this time.

I wrote to the students to design a t-shirt, and Sawyer Muir, Class of 2023, music minor, had the winning design.

What we love about the design is that the shape invokes a recognition to the COVID-19 virus itself, but the use of people and Denison Music surrounding it creates a sense of community.

In addition, the various musical instruments and equipment, on top of a vinyl record design, gives us a feeling of embracing it all, from old to new, classical and beyond. Just like our students, our program, our department.

I have extra ones in a variety of sizes, waiting for our 2024 class majors/minors to receive theirs as well!
