Research

I am a global health scientist; my research is grounded in methods found in global public health and lifestyle-related chronic diseases and falls into: Nutritional Epidemiology, Social Epidemiology, Novel Biomarkers, and Maternal and Child Health.
Details
  • I have strong research expertise in basic and clinical research in Global Public Health, including cancer, cardiometabolic, aging, nutritional, social, environmental, occupational epidemiology, and maternal and child health.
  • I have engaged in several collaborative epidemiological research projects. I possess expertise in providing leadership, guidance, and technical assistance on the entire spectrum of Global Public Health. 
  • Being a former pediatrician, my medical background enabled me to develop great clinical epidemiology and implementation research expertise.
  • I have published over 150 publications in prestigious international peer-reviewed journals, including those belonging to the Lancet and BMJ series.

  • I obtained several competitive research grants from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT), Japan, the Ministry of Higher Education, Egypt, the Japan Cardiovascular Research Foundation, and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. Currently, I am an applicant for a Michigan Health Endowment Fund.
  • My research primarily falls into the following four themes and related broad research questions:

    Theme #1: Nutritional Epidemiology in relation to Cardiometabolic and Cancer outcomes

    Theme #2: Social Epidemiology

    Theme #3: Novel Indicators and Biomarkers of Cancer and Cardiovascular Health

    Theme #4: Environmental and Occupational Hazards and Maternal and Child Health (Perinatal, Pediatric and Reproductive Epidemiology)
