July 25, 2014

John D. Lowenberg Sr., a principal of Anvil Management Company LLC., in Wilmington, Del., was awarded an alumni citation from his alma mater, Denison University in Granville, Ohio. In a ceremony that took place in June, Denison President Adam Weinberg presented Lowenberg with the highest honor conferred on a graduate or friend of the college.

Prior to the formation of Anvil Management, Lowenberg was associated with the Robinson-Humphrey Company LLC, an Atlanta-based investment banking firm since 1970. In 1997, he retired as managing director and director. He served on the Long Range Planning, Capital Commitment and Best Buys committees and was a director of several public and private companies.

A member of the Denison Board of Trustees since in 1988, Lowenberg has been a loyal and active Denisonian. As an effective trustee, he served on the Enrollment and the Finance and Audit committees and chaired the Investment Committee for close to twenty years. During his tenure, the value of the endowment increased from $66.5 million to $696 million, after spending. Lowenberg also served on the ad-hoc Sports Review Committee of the Board. In addition to his service on the board, John has been a Denison Alumni Recruitment Team volunteer and has served as both a career advisor and Alumni Club President. He also has served on several reunion committees, including his own class’s 50th committee.

Lowenberg helped lead the effort that resulted in the establishment of the Julian H. Robertson Jr. Endowed Professorship in 2008. The donors honored Robertson as a leader in the investment world, and as one who has been instrumental in the growth and management of the college’s endowment.

Lowenberg’s service extends deep into his local community. His work includes serving as a trustee for the Environmental Learning Center Foundation Board where he chairs the Investment committee, and on the Distinguished Lecture Series Board of Vero Beach, Fla. Lowenberg also serves as a trustee for the St. Edwards School where he serves on finance and investment committees. He serves on the External Investment Committee for Partners Capital Investment Group LLC, UK & Boston; the Advisory Boards of Cathay Capital Holdings I, II; LP private equity fund investing in China; and DAG Management LLC I, II, III and IV (Series B Round Venture Capital); as well as Bayhills Capital I, II.

He and his wife, Rosemary, are the proud parents of John Jr., a member of the Denison class of 1993 and Amy.
