David Howitt ’90 urges people to “Repair the World and Abundance Will Follow” in a popular TEDx talk. (A link to the talk is at the bottom of the page.) Howitt, an attorney and founder and CEO of Meriwether Group, also is an author and a motivational speaker who encourages people to keep in mind that the very best businesses involve a combination of heart and savvy business sense.

“So many of us suffocate in our cubicles; we’re afraid to become the hero of our own life story,” says Howitt. “We need a modern-day manifesto for the innovator whose creativity is stifled, the job hunter losing hope, the spiritual seeker afraid of financial success, the professional who no longer feels connected and fulfilled. Life is not an either/or prospect—you can have it all.”

“Life is not an either/or prospect—you can have it all.”

Howitt and his wife Heather developed, launched and grew “Oregon Chai,” a company which produces all-organic tea. After they sold the company, they built the Meriwether Group, a company that supports, advises and invests in entrepreneurs. Howitt shares the stories behind his and others’ unique success in his book “Heed Your Call: Integrating Myth, Science, Spirituality, and Business.”

The political science major is a business mentor who has closely guided companies and Fortune 100 leaders. He has a track record of helping small business owners distill their passion and use it to grow their brands to maximum potential, creatively and financially. And he also looks beyond financial gains to those that are less temporal.

“We all have the extraordinary within us, waiting to be released,” Howitt says. In his book and TEDx talk, he shares his personal experience and examines the foundation-altering paths taken by some of today’s most impressive entrepreneurs on their way to becoming heroes of their own lives.

Howitt visited Denison’s campus in the spring of 2014 and shared his insights with students through workshops and lectures.
