The Denison Communication Department is always looking for new ways to build and expand our scholastic community.
This year, we’ve done so by making our debut onto the podcast scene through Aca-Media. Aca-Media is a monthly podcast featuring informal discussions and interviews with Cinema and Media Studies academics across the country. The episodes explore current issues, trends, and developments in the field, highlighting a wide array of topics from gender and racial politics on screen to reimagining radio broadcast classics. Sponsored by the Society for Cinema and Media Studies, the podcast has become a collaborative effort among some of Denison’s own. Professor Dr. Bill Kirkpatrick, co-producer, works in conjunction with colleagues at the University of Notre Dame to generate content and coordinate interviews with the featured guests for the episodes. Although largely behind-the-scenes, Dr. Kirkpatrick has been very instrumental in Aca-Media’s success and occasionally adds his voice to the on-air conversations.
Denison senior and Communication department fellow Jillian Misner is a production assistant in charge of the show notes, adding links to all the references made in each episode. Lizzie Kunkle, another senior department fellow, uses her skills as a Cinema and Communication double major to provide visuals for Aca-Media, even creating a great opening for upcoming screencasts. Our department is grateful for this medium as a way to connect with other scholars, as well as the opportunities for students to take their Denison educations way beyond the classroom. Aca-Media episodes can be found on iTunes, Stitcher, or you can listen to them at http://www.aca-media.org.
