Biography

I am a cultural sociologist of education who uses ethnographic methods to understand how teachers at ethnolinguistically minoritized educational programs think about answers to the big philosophical questions of education.

My disciplinary training is principally informed by the Social Foundations of Education, a subfield of educational studies in which we focus on how what happens outside the classroom affects what happens inside the classroom (and vice versa). My geographical area of expertise is the Amdo Tibetan region in what is now western areas of China. I lived, taught, and research there for nearly 7 years prior to and during my doctoral research.
