Stellar Students Celebrated

May 13, 2014

Each year, the Denison community gathers in Swasey Chapel to celebrate academic achievements by students and faculty. One of these awards is the President’s Medal, which is the highest recognition the college gives to a current student. It honors a small number of graduating seniors who have attained outstanding intellectual achievement, along with some combination of the following: service to the community, contribution to the arts, enlargement of Denison’s global perspective, leadership, athletic fitness and achievements, and contributions to community discourse.

This year, the seven seniors who were chosen for the honor are Meghan Callahan, from Centennial, Colo.; Josh Goldman from Cincinnati, Ohio; Michaela Grenier from Downers Grove, Ill.; Andrea Karl from Powell, Ohio; Carlos Maciel Neto from Recife Brazil; Daniel Persia from Spencerport, N.Y.; and Yubo “Paul” Yang from Chengdu, China.

Of these students, Denison President Adam Weinberg said, “Today, on this annual occasion, we stop to celebrate the mutuality of the most successful teaching and the deepest learning. Outstanding teachers and mentors inspire exceptional achievement in our students. These exceptionally motivated and demanding learners have brought out energy and creativity in their teachers.”
