Denison University student Rob Tate receives UPS Scholarship

October 23, 2015

Denison University student Rob Tate, a senior from Dayton, Ohio, has been selected to receive a UPS Scholarship provided by the Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges and its national partner, the Council of Independent Colleges. Tate is one of 34 students who were awarded scholarships from a $83,300 fund.

Tate is a political science major at Denison. He also is a rising rapper who believes that music and education are intertwined.

“Denison has been the greatest thing for my intellectual development, and that totally translates to my music. Other rappers ask how I get my lyrics and I tell them that I read. I go to class. You want to be a person who is aware, a cognizant, global citizen,” he says.

The Council of Independent Colleges is an association of 744 nonprofit independent colleges and universities and higher education affiliates and organizations that has worked since 1956 to support college and university leadership, advance institutional excellence, and enhance public understanding of private higher education’s contributions to society.
The Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges, a non-profit 501c3 organization, is the primary corporate and foundation solicitation organization for 34 independent Ohio colleges and universities and operates one of the largest, most comprehensive and diverse scholarship management services in the state.
