Please join us as we welcome our guest speaker, Colonel Mike Walker, for a discussion regarding the ongoing civil war in Myanmar, the implications of the war for Southeast Asia, and how the war influences ongoing geopolitical competition between the US and China.
Colonel Walker is a diplomat, strategist, special operations aviator, and combat veteran with extensive experience in joint military operations, the international and inter-agency environments, and the development and implementation of national security and foreign policy. His most recent assignment was as a Federal Executive Fellow at the Brookings Institution where he focused on foreign policy and national security research topics. His substantial international experience includes assignments at the U.S. Embassies in Burma, Thailand, and Malaysia. He has also served as an operational planner and staff officer at U.S. Southern Command.
Colonel Walker has deployed extensively in support of Operations ENDURING FREEDOM (Afghanistan), WILLINGSPIRIT (Colombia), and FREEDOM’S SENTINEL (Djibouti) serving in a variety of flying, staff, and command positions. He holds an MPhil in Military Strategy from the School of Advanced Air & Space Studies, an MA in Military Operational Art from the Air Command & Staff College, and a BA in Political Science from the University of Tennessee.
