Questions:

Did you know that your home and yard are home to thousands of different species? From coyotes to luna moths, a whole world of wildlife surrounds you in your town or city. Author Sara A. Gagné will show you how you can impact the species around you, and how they can impact you in your own yard, on your street, in your neighborhood, and throughout your city. She will also share simple ways to enhance your relationship with urban nature in these areas. A reception and book signing will take place at the Denison Museum following the talk in Sharon Martin Hall.

Sara A. Gagné, PhD, is the author of Nature at Your Door: Connecting with the Wild and Green in the Urban and Suburban Landscape (Stackpole Books, 2023) and associate professor of landscape ecology in the Department of Geography and Earth Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Gagné’s research, teaching, and writing are dedicated to understanding and communicating how people and nature interact in cities. She lives in Charlotte, where she helps to make urban spaces more welcoming to wildlife.

Denison University’s Sustainability Office, the Denison Museum, and faculty across disciplines have worked together over the past year to create an exhibition and program series for Fall 2023 centered around the concepts of resilience and change.
