Biography

Born in the swamps of Florida, Scott would become one of the worst third-person authors of recent memory and is notorious for switching writing perspective mid-paragraph. I also like skateboarding, though the zenith of my abilities has passed, it still plays a role in my life.

I was attracted to working in Human Resources in the early 2000s and transitioned fully into the field in 2012 and celebrated the decision by leaving the tropical climate of Florida and relocating to the Columbus, OH area. The weather here suits me better.

Prior to joining the Denison HR Team, I worked for American Electric Power (AEP) for nearly 9 years in primarily HR roles (HR Generalist and Organizational Development positions) and as a Project Outreach Specialist supporting major transmission line projects in Indiana and Michigan.

And then one day, I left. Taking a full year off from work to explore the questions: “Who am I?” and “What do I want?”.

In April of 2023, I joined Denison University as a Talent Management Consultant and then moved to my current position as Manager of Organizational Development & Engagement in July of 2024.

“If I see Scott, what are some good topics to discuss?”

  • I’m a father and my son is in the Navy
  • How leaders can become even more effective
  • I love talking about movies (the weirder the better)
  • Why we perform better when we are engaged in our jobs
  • I’m a devout music lover and physical media collector
  • Conversations about kindness and inclusivity
  • J.R.R. Tolkien, Kurt Vonnegut, Ray Bradbury and Terry Pratchett
  • Denison Culture (Yesterday, Today and in the Future)
  • Skateboarding
  • How Human Resources can support the overall employee experience

My most favorite thing to talk about is who your leadership heroes are! Please feel free to share with me who they are and why. It could expose me to some brilliant ideas I haven’t heard yet and influence me for the rest of my life. Yep, you are that powerful!
