Andy McCall from the Department of Biology presents the Tuesday Lunch program. We normally think of animals behaving, or reacting to stimuli in the environment, but scientists have been studying behavior in plants since Darwin’s time. Recently, researchers have found that plants can communicate environmental information to each other, choose host plants to parasitize, and even sense the sounds of insect damage! I will explore these fascinating cases with you and discuss how the study of plant behavior might benefit humankind.
