From President Weinberg:
I am saddened to share news of the death of Denison Life Trustee Malcolm (Mal) McNiven.
Mal was an authority on advertising and market research who forged a unique career that bridged academia and practice. He taught at the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Maryland, the Wharton School, and the Georgia Institute of Technology. Mal also served in senior management at several large corporations — including DuPont, Coca-Cola, Pillsbury, IMS International, and the Bank of America — and directed the Center for Marketing Studies at the University of Georgia before launching his own marketing consulting firm.
He was equally invested at Denison. As a member of the Board of Trustees from 1971 to 1993, Mal served on several committees, including investment, development, and finance. He was instrumental in the college’s highly successful Campaign for Denison and was granted life trustee status in 1993.
Mal graduated from Denison in 1951 with a B.S. in psychology. He also earned a M.S. from Ohio University and a Ph.D. from Pennsylvania State University.
Our condolences go out to his wife, Elaine ’53, and their family. The Denison flag will fly at half-staff in his memory.
