Rachel Weaver ‘20 Environmental Studies and Art History & Visual Culture (and Independent Study with Ron Abram in Printmaking)

My biggest takeaway from Denison has been the value of the liberal arts and how important our interdisciplinary view is. In the “real world”, the communications skills we learned in critiques, time management tools from series installations, and other more practical skills are far more valuable than what others might be learning in the classroom. Being able to understand the world through multiple perspectives and lenses is something unique to the learning approaches at Denison, in any subject.

The Bryant printroom became a second home to me, and my class became another family. Late night editioning tarot cards and joking around in the solvent room have been some of my best moments on campus my senior year. So it’s a combination of the people and the place.

Until we can be together physically, Arts@Denison is sharing weekly greetings, profiles, and performances to keep us connected through the fine arts. In the coming weeks we will celebrate the artistry of our students, faculty, staff, alums, and visiting artists. They will demonstrate the love, resilience, and creativity of Denison-connected artists and the power of the arts and our artists. Follow us on Instagram and Facebook for more arts from our Denison community.
