Just twenty years ago, chemists began to ask if carbon-based (organic) materials could be used in display technology. Thus began research into organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). Today, this technology has helped to change the world…Hello, iPhone! Currently, there is great need for developing new materials for energy harvesting and storage, particularly solar energy. this talk will explore the current state and challenges of organic-based photvoltaics. It will also describe work in the Reczek Group to design, develop, and harness new materials called donor-acceptor columnar liquid crystal materials.
