Dan Crawford '11 bikes and builds this summer
Dan Crawford, a biochemistry major, and Lauren Sabo-Crawford, a soc/anth major, are taking 75 days this summer to complete a dream they’ve had since graduating in 2011 —to ride their bikes 4,000 miles across America and stop off in cities to help build homes for Habitat for Humanity.
The pair started with their feet in the Atlantic Ocean at Portland, Me. on June 20, and will finish with their feet in the Pacific Ocean at Santa Barbara, Calif. on August 30. They have used this opportunity to raise more than $9,000 to fund affordable housing.
Crawford and Sabo-Crawford have been accepted to a graduate program at Miami University in Ohio, in collaboration with the Denver Zoo, for masters’ degrees in biology and outdoor education.
Sabo-Crawford says “Our ultimate goal is to open a nonprofit in the near future that works with at risk students and students with special needs in the great outdoors, participating in activities such as whitewater rafting, rock climbing, backpacking, etc.”
