Life-changing off-campus study program

All Denison University students who study abroad are charged Denison University tuition fees; this is a home fee structure. Denison University established a home fee structure for study abroad, allowing all eligible students to study abroad using the same terms as on-campus study. As a result, all students will be charged Denison University tuition, housing, & food costs.

The cost structure reflects the University’s belief that all Denison students should have the opportunity to study abroad. Students can apply the entirety of their financial aid package, including merit scholarships toward the cost of a study abroad program if all financial aid requirements are met.

Show/Hide May I take my financial aid to an approved off-campus study program?

Yes. Denison merit-based scholarships and awards, need-based grants, and federal loans are available for off-campus study for U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and international students who qualify. Please note that Federal Work-Study is not available while studying abroad.

Students receiving tuition remission from non-GLCA schools should check with appropriate officials at the college providing the tuition benefit to determine which fees and the off-campus program may be covered by tuition remission. Denison University tuition remission does not pay fees for abroad/off-campus programs.

Show/Hide What is the Financial Aid Application deadline for Off-Campus Programs?

The Office of Financial Aid must receive your FAFSA data by April 1.

Show/Hide May I use my financial aid for the Denison Summer programs?

No, we are unable to offer financial aid for summer programs.

Show/Hide What should I do to make arrangements for financial aid?

Steps for receiving aid for an off-campus study program:

  1. Apply for the program with the Off-Campus Study Office by the stated deadline, generally before Thanksgiving Break.
  2. The Off-Campus Study Office will notify the Office of Financial Aid of your approval.

If you have never filed for financial aid, you can file the FAFSA to see if you qualify for federal financial aid that can be used for off-campus study.

If the financial aid award includes a Federal Direct Loan or a Denison Scholar Loan these award types must be in an accepted status and all loan requirements complete, including the promissory note.

Show/Hide If I decide to go on an off-campus program, what will be charged and how will I be billed?

An Administration Off-Campus Fee is billed by Denison. If you decide to go off campus for a full year, the fee is charged each semester.
