The Spectrum Series welcomes Ronald Sandler of Northeastern University presenting “The Ethics of De-Extinction.”

Due to advances in genetics and synthetic biology there now appears to be a plausible pathway for reviving species that have been extinct for decades, centuries, or even millennia. Many people are excited about the prospect of bringing species such as the passenger pigeon, Tasmanian devil, and mammoth “back from the dead.” In this talk Dr. Sandler will discuss the social, ethical, and ecological aspects of de-extinction and ask whether it is something that we ought to pursue.
